pocketed pleasure...
Vegan food never tasted so delectable. This goody has nourished eaters since ancient Egypt, served as a replacement for greasy burgers, and sparked controversy regarding copyright infringement in Lebanon. McFalafel, anyone? Made with chickpeas, then fried to a golden crisp, falafel balls are topped with pickled vegetables and hot sauce, then folded in a pita bread pocket, yielding the delicious phenomenon known commonly as "falafel." While walking down the streets of the literary hub of Iowa City today, I encountered a Mediterranean-style eatery called Oasis, where I had my first taste of this protein, vitamin, and fiber-filled crispy snack. But we all know it's not about the taste - it's about the smell. And in terms of scent, falafel's got a stench. Maybe it's the tahini dip drenching the bread, or maybe it's the pickled vegetables - regardless, falafel isn't a treat when it comes to pleasing the nose. There is redemption in the taste, but that funky smell is just unforgivable.
